A dehybridised Apache at F4. The original is a UK-bred F1 hybrid with an RHS Award of Garden Merit, and almost all Apache seed sold is still that F1, so saved seed from it won’t come true. This one is four generations into being grown out and selected. Most plants come true to type, a few will still vary.
Compact and bushy at 35 to 50 cm, with small bullet-shaped pods 5 to 7 cm long ripening green to bright red. Around 70,000 to 80,000 SHU, a clean, sharp burn, bright and slightly sweet when fully ripe. Good for sauces, salsas, and quick pickles. I grow mine in smaller pots where it crops heavily even in cooler summers.

Every seed we sell is grown at the ChilliChump homestead, so we control the whole process from sowing to harvest. Seeds are handpicked from healthy plants, processed using methods we’ve refined over the years, and germination-tested before they reach you.
Keeping our seed true to type is something we work hard at. The only way to truly isolate a chilli variety, though, is to grow it with no other chilli plant within a quarter of a mile to a mile, and no grower with a collection can do that. So we don’t claim 100% purity. The chance of a stray cross is small. If something grows out differently to what you expected, please get in touch. We’d rather hear about it than not.
